3 playmakers the Pittsburgh Steelers have no choice but to sign if cut this week
One of the most intriguing parts of this time of year is the roster cutdown date. Come Tuesday, August 27th at 4:00 p.m. EST, all 32 teams have to have their 53-man rosters set in stone. One of the most intriguing parts of this time of year is the roster cutdown date.
Come Tuesday, August 27th at 4:00 p.m. EST, all 32 teams have to have their 53-man rosters set in stone.
But teams will start making cuts well before that deadline, with plenty of big names potentially on the chopping block.
Here are three, all of who could fill holes on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster.
WR Kadarius Toney

A former first-round pick, we know Coach Tomlin has a fondness for athletes that may not have panned out, with names like Justin Gilbert coming to mind. Wanting to know more on Toney and why he's a prime cut candidate, I reached out to a friend on the Kansas City Chiefs beat:
Kadarius Toney is on the outside looking in on the Kansas City Chiefs roster in what was once a bad wide receiver room, and is now looking much better. There are too many guys in that room that stay healthy and are more consistent, so he being cut could very much happen. If he does get cut, he’d still be a player teams may want to snag because he has championship pedigree, will play special teams, and is a dynamic player with the ball in his hands. The issue is getting the ball to stay in his hands.

EDGE Jamin Davis

Pittsburgh's fourth edge rusher is likely to come down to Jeremiah Moon or Kyron Johnson. Both have shown flashes all camp and preseason, but since converting to an EDGE role, Washington Commanders LB Jamin Davis has been catching eyes:
Is Davis turning the corner in, well, learning how to turn the corner? A 2021 first-round pick as a linebacker, the Kentucky product is now trying to hang on to his spot in Washington as an edge rusher. Though he's still plenty raw, the 6-4, 234-pounder has been working with four-time Pro Bowler and assistant linebackers coach Ryan Kerrigan to hone his pass-rushing skills. His promise was evident in last week's preseason contest against the Miami Dolphins, when he beat second-round rookie offensive tackle Patrick Paul for a strip-sack. With the Commanders already having declined Davis' fifth-year option, the draft capital that the previous regime spent on him means little to his current odds of staying on. But the talent and athleticism that helped him earn that status could prove meaningful in a late push to remain.

CB James Bradberry

Bradberry may be a little long in the tooth at this point of his career, but Pittsburgh has little to no depth in the CB room, with Cory Trice Jr. likely to be the team's third corner and some slot players behind him. To see how available Bradberry really is, I asked one of the risers on the Eagles beat.
It seems the Philadelphia Eagles are trying to do everything they can to keep James Bradberry on their roster. They even switched him to safety this offseason, though the younger guys gave him a run for his money throughout training camp and certainly looked better than him in preseason games. That doesn't mean Bradberry wouldn't offer any veteran stability if he were to make the roster. After all, he's not too far removed from his All-Pro 2022 season. The Eagles might also make room for him just to use him as trade bait.
