The Pittsburgh Steelers shocked the NFL world when they traded for superstar WR DK Metcalf.

And on Monday, they made things official with a couple of veterans who are no strangers to Pittsburgh.

But that shouldn't preclude them from one more big swing…

Steelers re-sign Scotty Miller, Ben Skowronek

The Steelers signed receiver Scotty Miller to a one-year contract.

In six seasons, Miller has played in 80 games, with 11 starts. He has 90 receptions for 1,154 yards, a 12.8-yard average, and six touchdowns. He has also carried the ball eight times for 81 yards, a 10.1-yard average, and one touchdown.

Miller signed with the Steelers in 2024, playing in 13 games, with one start. He had five receptions for 69 yards, a 13.8-yard average, including a long of 21 yards.

The Steelers signed receiver Ben Skowronek to a two-year contract.

Skowronek began the 2024 season on the Steelers practice squad and was elevated for the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons and Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, before he was placed on the Reserve/Injured List on Sept. 18.

He was elevated to the 53-man roster in November, and appeared in a total of 10 games, starting one. He finished the season with five receptions for 69 yards, a 13.8-yard average.

In an ideal world, Skowronek and Miller are WR #5 and #6 on the depth chart. Useful special teamers as return men and gunners who make their living do the dirty, but honest work of NFL core special teamers.

In no way should they be viewed as considerable threats to crack the starting lineup, even if both flashed some capable moments throughout both their career and time in Pittsburgh.

So the question remains: Who will man the slot wide receiver role for the Pittsburgh Steelers? There are candidates on the roster, including Calvin Austin III, who took a promising step last season, and of course, Roman Wilson, who the Steelers had high hopes for when they drafted him less than a year ago.

But perhaps a move in the draft, or a signing of one of the free-agent WRs still remaining, is in play for Pittsburgh.

Because regardless of who's throwing the ball next season, they will need playmakers and the Steelers already have two of the best in the league at doing such.

Adding one more would be the cherry on top.
