The Pittsburgh Steelers are approaching the start of offseason activities with a roster full of veterans, rookies, and new faces at key positions.

So in Peter King's latest edition of Football Morning in America, the Hall-of-Fame writer for NBC Sports released his post-draft findings and rankings, with the Steelers being a bit devalued in my opinion.

King divided teams into seven categories when ranking the 2023 NFL rosters post-NFl Draft. They included:

  • Can’t find a weakness
  • They’ve got Super Bowl vibes
  • They’re on the border
  • If all goes right …
  • They’ve got holes
  • Under construction
  • Wait till 2025

The Steelers fell into King's If all goes right… category with an overall ranking of 16th amongst their NFL peers. Here's what King had to say about the Steelers' ranking and offseason moves:

NFL position group with the most surprising 2023 makeover: the Steelers’ secondary, with corners Patrick Peterson and Joey Porter Jr. and safety Keanu Neal. Every one of those is a double take

Before we dive into the back-handed compliment, let's start with the ranking. The initial look isn't to head-scratching, with Pittsburgh fairly viewed as a middle-of-the-road team as we stand nearly four months out from the kickoff of the 2023 season.

Outside of the Vikings at 14, you can make a sound argument that most of the teams in front of Pittsburgh have at least similar if not better rosters than Pittsburgh, including:

  • Chargers (15th)
  • Jaguars (13th)
  • Seahawks (12th)
  • Giants (11th)

At least King knew not to put the Browns above Pittsburgh, but that's a topic for another day. Instead, let's shift to his comment about the makeover of the secondary. His phrasing that each addition is worthy of a double take is a sardonic compliment if I've ever seen one.

Basically, King likes some of the additions (likely Joey Porter Jr.) but isn't too high on the Patrick Peterson and Keanu Neal signings. But Peterson is coming off of one of his best statistical years, and Neal hasn't even turned 30 yet.

So while Steelers should thank King for his "makeover" compliment, they can add some spite based on his ranking and the outlook of some of the team's newest members.
