Buccaneers finally release TE Cameron Brate
The Buccaneers had no other choice.
For every time that a great player like Jamel Dean or Lavonte David is able to stay with a cash-strapped team like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, another veteran or promising player gets cut or traded.
The Bucs have already seen their share of talented players on their way out the door (Shaq Mason at the top of this list), but the good news for the team is that not every departure is going to hurt the team.
Sometimes, cutting players, even longtime veterans, is the right move by a mile.
Cameron Brate is one such player.
After news broke a few days back that this move was coming, the Buccaneers have finally made their split with their veteran tight end official.
While some fans could debate the value of Leonard Fournette and whether his release was going to be the right move for the team, Brate was much harder to argue in favor of keeping.
Constant injuries and failing to crack 300 receiving yards since 2019 had a way of ensuring Brate was never living up to his contract value.
It may hurt to say it, but this move should've probably come a few years ago to speed up the process of finding a better tight end, but the emergence of Cade Otton should leave the team in more-than-capable hands in the post-Brate era.
The market probably won't be huge, but keep an eye on Brate to find somewhere else to continue his career. Buccaneers fans probably haven't seen the last of one of the best tight ends in franchise history.
