The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been known for their defense over the past few years, and the part of that defense that has been the hardest to stop for most of that time was the front seven.
Todd Bowles was truly able to create something special with that group, and while he has been able to keep his linebackers for the most part, the defensive line currently looks very different.
With William Gholston and Akiem Hicks still on the free agent market, the Bucs are looking very bare with starters and depth pieces at this vital position, but the team was able to start tipping the scales back in their favor with a recent signing.
Deadrin Senat, a depth lineman defender for the Bucs in 2022, is back with the team for 2023 on a very team-friendly deal.
Senat is unlikely to crack the starting lineup without a an injury to one of the starters or higher-profile new additions, but having a guy that knows the system and got reps in 2022 on a cheap deal is far from a bad thing.
The Buccaneers are going to look very different in the trenches this season. Senat may have only played a few reps in each game in 2022 behind a talented starting three, but he stands to carve out a larger role for himself this season if he can put together a good few months.
Tampa should be grateful to have the 300-pound veteran back and ready to keep the line in shape if any of the starters are off the field.
History tells us that could be coming. It never hurts to prepare.
