Buccaneers star LB Devin White posts cryptic message about future
A big move could be in the works for the Buccaneers.
The Buccaneers still have a lot of moves to make before they are ready to go into the 2023 NFL season. The salary cap may look like a myth for some teams, but the Bucs are still going to have to do a lot in this regard before they are back in the green.
Going all in for a few years, using void years in contracts, and paying Tom Brady has a way of making a bill that is sure to come due.
Tampa is currently taking the correct approach and taking care of the salary cap situation by making some key cuts to make space, and it looks like a big trade could be on the horizon as well with one of defensive leaders.
While it is never smart to take cryptic posts on social media as gospel, there is certainly something worth looking at with Devin White's most recent posts on Instagram.
This is a bit of surprising news based on who White is to the Buccaneers franchise and the fact that a cut is not on the table, but crazier moves have been made in the name of getting teams back in good cap standing.
Trading White would save Tampa just north of $10 million in a season where every contract is going to matter, and it is fair to say that the value on inside linebackers is diminishing in a world where you can always find cheap replacements in the draft or on the free agent market. A draft pick to go along with cap relief doesn't hurt either.
Still, a move like this would be unprecedented for one of the most recognizable faces in the franchise. This writer wouldn't bet on it happening, but there are some obvious upsides to a decision like this.
This will be an interesting story to follow over the coming days for Buccaneers fans and fans of other teams in the NFL that could be in on the trade market for a Pro Bowl linebacker.
