The Tampa Bay Buccaneers appear to be doing everything in their power to suck the life, fun, and joy out of the start of the 2023 NFL season.

While everyone is excited to see the team take the field under some new circumstances in the post-Tom Brady era, the recent Mike Evans story has been hard for the diehard fans to stomach.

After Evans gave the team an ultimatum of Saturday to get a new contract to remain with the franchise, news has finally broken regarding Tampa's stance, and it doesn't look good for a continued partnership with Evans.

Assuming Evans is to be believed alongside this report, he will not get his new contract tomorrow, and that likely means the end of the Mike Evans era in Tampa.

It is almost hard to put that into words and accept it at the same time.

Evans has been the Buccaneers for a number of years. Despite all the bad. All the losing seasons. All the coming and going of other guys for money or whatever other reasons, Evans stayed and played at the highest level.

Whether it was a losing season with the worst record in the league or a Super Bowl, Evans was a leader both on and off the field. Now, that era is poised to come to an end with this recent report.

This absolutely feels like a mistake for the Bucs, even if the cap space is tight and spending even more money at the receiver position is hard to justify.

Mike Evans is arguably the most important player in franchise history, and the odds being high that he doesn't spend his entire career with the Bucs is a downright travesty.
