The Tampa Bay Buccaneers always had one more move to make at quarterback before the start of the season. Letting it ride with just Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask was never on the table.
The Bucs made it clear that they were keeping their options open at the position to keep the room as full as possible, and they have finally made their decision.
Wolford comes to the Buccaneers after plenty of team success with the Rams, but his success as an individual shows this move for exactly what it is.
Wolford is not the future face of the franchise. However, the Bucs will have an open competition for the backup quarterback role, and it looks like Wolford will spend most of his time competing for that position.
Baker Mayfield looks like the starter as of now, and Tampa simply handing Kyle Trask that second job after two years of failing to beat Blaine Gabbert would be silly.
Wolford may not be much of a step up, but he does have more experience in the NFL and could bring more as a backup to Mayfield after playing with him than Trask.
It may not be all that exciting, but the Buccaneers finally have their full quarterback room. At least Wolford does have some experience at the highest level.
