It looks like this season is going to come down to the wire for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
A final matchup against a rival to settle the division is all a team like the Bucs could ever ask for, and the fact that this opponent also happens to be one of the worst in the NFL is certainly not bad either.
While there may have been a bit of concern this week around Kyle Trask potentially starting due to some question marks surrounding Baker Mayfield, those questions look like they have finally been answered.
While some fans probably laughed off the idea that Trask would be making a start during one of the most important games for the Bucs in two years, others were rightfully very concerned about Mayfield's health after the Saints game last week.
Mayfield took a horrendous hit that looked like it could take most other quarterbacks out for a few weeks, but it appears that the Saints won't get that lucky this time.
With Mayfield finally squashing the doubt about his ability to play this weekend, the playoff hopes for the Bucs are as good as they have been all week.
Should Trask be able to beat the worst team in the NFL if he had to play? Sure. Would he under the pressure, especially after the Panthers kept their last matchup against the Bucs close? That is a different answer entirely.
Mayfield takes all the ambiguity away, assuming he is going to play at 100%. The Buccaneer offense should be able to cook the Panthers through the air, and Mayfield finishing out his season as the starter for every game is only fitting.
The Bucs may still want to keep a close eye on Mayfield today and tomorrow, but this is the best news the team could get with the playoffs on the line. Hopefully nothing changes.
