Tom Brady made his return to the Buccaneers 11 days ago and it's safe to say that everyone has since wondered when/if Rob Gronkowski makes his own return.
The last time we heard anything from Gronk himself was when he said there was a "very good chance" of returning to the Buccaneers as he exited a Tampa Bay barber shop.
But a "very good chance" isn't a guarantee. A very good chance means there is still room for Gronkowski to decline playing with Brady and the Buccaneers. And his agent, Drew Rosenhaus added a little more to that possibility on Thursday.
“He hasn’t decided yet,” Rosenhaus told the media in regard to Gronkowski's playing future.
“I talked to Tampa yesterday and I told them that he’s still undecided,” Rosenhaus said. “I don’t know when he’s going to make a decision. He told me he needs some time to figure out whether he wants to play.”
Rosenhaus is one of the top agents -if not the top agent– in the NFL. He knows how to play the game. I say this because it's certainly possible Rosenhaus knows his comments will make headlines, which in turn puts the onus on the Buccaneers to sweeten the offer in hopes of coaxing Gronkowski back to Tampa Bay. Or he thinks it will, at least.
The fact Rosenhaus also said the Buccaneers "have made an offer" to Gronkowski lends credence the above theory. He also then says "I honestly think he's undecided", which is a bit of a step back from his initial statement. So, it does look like we are watching one of the league's top agents do his job.
But to tie it all back into a funny circle with the barber shop video at the center: Gronkowski did say he was going to take his time so he can "scare Brady" like Brady scared him when he retired.
So, it's not impossible that Gronkowski is playing the game, too.
Regardless, it's hard to imagine Gronkowski not in a Buccaneers uniform in 2022. However, crazier things have happened. As the last 10 days have shown.
