The Tampa Bay Buccaneers released their preseason schedule on Thursday and the most important information came in the form of the fact that the team will participate in joint practices with the New York Jets ahead of their preseason matchup.
Per Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud, the Bucs and Jets will practice against each other during the week leading up to the game:
Will we see Aaron Rodgers?
Tom Brady isn't around anymore, but Rodgers certainly is. And there are a ton of expectations surrounding him and the Jets, which gives the Jets a familiar feel to the 2020 Super Bowl champion Buccaneers.
Rodgers should participate in the joint practices. The only reason Brady didn't participate in last year's joint practices with the Tennessee Titans is because he was on personal leave.
It'll be fun to see the Bucs defense and Jets offense square off and it'll be even more fun to see how Rodgers handles his first real action of the offseason.
Let's not forget the Buccaneers rookies, too. There are a lot of unknowns, but plenty of excitement surrounding the roster and the 2023 draft class figures to factor into how everything plays out.
Joint practices are an excellent way for teams to get an accurate evaluation of where things stand, as a whole, and every team should take advantage of them. Tampa Bay has done just that and has been participating in joint practices all the way back to the 2016 season. The only time they haven't had joint practices was back in 2020 when the COVID pandemic completely changed the structure of the offseason.
