The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have done well so far in free agency.

Sure, some quality players were going to depart to get the team back into cap compliance, but being able to go out and find a few value signings will go a long way to keeping this team from rolling over in 2023.

Even signing Baker Mayfield was a good move for a team that had nothing at quarterback after Tom Brady left.

However, staying content at the most important position in the sport is not how someone like Todd Bowles keeps their job.

To do that, most coaches have to gamble from time to time.

The good news for the Bucs is that a gamble does exist that would not just save Todd Bowles, it would leave the team in a position to make it back to the Super Bowl.

Don't shut the door on the Buccaneers trading for Lamar Jackson just yet.

First of all, there is no met need at quarterback for the Bucs. Being happy with Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask at quarterback is asinine.

The opportunity to get Jackson, a player that is a massive upgrade over both as a thrower and as a runner, would be too great to overcome, even with Mayfield's recent contract and Trask's draft status.

The Bucs would be a better team with Lamar Jackson at quarterback. That much is simple.

Sure, there are some injuries in Lamar's past, but these injuries would've happened to any quarterback in the league in that offense when they were hit behind the line of scrimmage like Jackson was.

Next, should the Bucs be willing to make this trade and sign Lamar to a long-term deal?

They better.

If Tampa truly cares about winning games and the Glazers really want to keep fans in seats, Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask aren't the way to accomplish that feat.

Raymond James will be empty by the end of the year if Kyle Trask wins the starting job.

Jackson is different. Not only does he improve Tampa's chances of winning in the short and long term, but he also is a much bigger draw of fans and free agents to the Tampa area.

Lastly, Jackson's continued availability goes a long way towards showing Tampa's growing odds of landing the former MVP.

Teams that make sense as a fit for Jackson are coming out each day it seems and saying that they are staying with who they have on the roster. The list is dwindling, and if the Colts pass on Jackson, it seems like there may not be a better fit than the Bucs.

There are still a few dominos that have to fall before this becomes a favorite option for both parties, but the move does make a lot of sense when it's all said and done.

Don't rule it out yet.
