After the injury to QB3 John Wolford, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an obvious need on their depth chart for a new quarterback.
The only issue; who can you honestly go out and sign at this point in the preseason?
With so few reliable options on the table, the Bucs are stuck with an obvious need but no answer in the form of an obvious solution to the problem.
As it stands, the Buccaneers really need a third quarterback in a bad way for at least one more week. With Baker Mayfield looking like the starter, Trask should play a decent chunk of next week's game, Baker will play a series or two, and then who goes in last?
This third quarterback role basically exists for moments like that, and now it looks like the Bucs will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel just to find someone.
Matt Ryan and Carson Wentz aren't real options for obvious reasons. That leaves a very small handful of other options that could step into that spot for the Bucs, but there aren't a ton of guys that fit for the main reasons of upside or familiarity with the system.
The best option right now seems like Bryce Perkins, especially with his ability to run the scout team for an opponent that has a mobile quarterback, but even that option is lackluster at this part of the year.
The Buccaneers will have to make a decision one way or another very soon to ensure their newest addition has time to acclimate to the new system, but right now it is anybody's guess as to who that new player could be.
