2023 is already off to a great start for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
2-0 has been great, and it has been even better to see the team come together and create a new identity in the post Tom-Brady era.
The team spirit and identity have been obvious, and a huge part of that is due to Mike Evans being off to one of the best starts of his career. In fact, Evans could be primed for a historic season after deciding to test free agency at the end of this year.
While the sample size is small, who doesn't like taking numbers and extrapolating them over a full season? Crazier things have happened, and it's interesting to see where guys are projected to finish based on their current rate of play.
As it stands, Mike Evans has accounted for 237 yards and two touchdowns on the year. That leaves the future Ring of Honor member and Hall of Fame contender on pace for 2,014 yards and 17 touchdowns by the end of the season.
Is that possible? Yes. Realistic? Probably not.
Mike Evans is great, but expecting the current rate of receptions to continue (especially against better secondaries) and for no injuries to happen is a little too optimistic.
Still, could Evans shatter his career highs in both categories? It is certainly on the table.
Evans' high for yards in a season is 1,524 and his touchdown high is 14.
Both of those numbers are extremely impressive in their own right, and Evans is already on the right track to break them with a few games baked in for rest/injuries.
Keep a close eye on Mike Evans this year. Bucs fans and the rest of the NFL are in for something very special.
