Sorry Gators fans, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just took a step away from Kyle Trask as the starting quarterback.
What a shock.
While one half of a preseason may not be everything, Baker Mayfield has looked like the much better quarterback against live competition. Could that change? Absolutely. But it is obvious that Mayfield has officially taken a lead in the race to becoming the starting quarterback in Tampa.
On one hand, you have Mayfield, a quarterback that was able to move the pocket well, hit open receivers, and pushed the ball down the field as needed.
Mayfield was even able to hit Trey Palmer for an excellent touchdown on a relatively tight window.
On the other hand, Kyle Trask just threw one of the worst interceptions of the preseason so far.
While one interception isn't everything, one quarterback has looked very comfortable. The other quarterback has not.
For all of the bettors out there, this always looked like the most likely outcome. Baker Mayfield was the better college quarterback, has more experience in the NFL, and has better traits.
If the Buccaneers were serious about winning football games this season, keeping the ball out of Kyle Trask's hands was always one of the most important moves.
Baker was the better player and will be the better starter in pewter and red. One more preseason game like this will likely seal that future in stone and show the Bucs who their true starter will be.
