The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ended up taking three players in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but none have more promise than wide receiver Trey Palmer.
The Bucs traded a 2024 fifth-rounder in order to move back into the sixth round and select Palmer at No. 191 overall. The speedster brings a dynamic element to the Buccaneers' passing game and it's one that should really allow the incumbent trio of Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, and Russell Gage to find room in the intermediate areas of the field.
The other two selections, Joshua Hayes, and Jose Ramirez aren't as exciting, but they do have a chance to make an impact in 2023. For different reasons, though, of course.
Buccaneers’ Round 6 Picks in the 2023 NFL Draft
Round 6, No. 181 overall: DB Josh Hayes, Kansas State

It’s hard to identify what the Buccaneers are doing with Hayes, here. Mostly because he’s viewed as more of a priority free agent signing, than anything.
Yes, he runs a 4.4 and has 32-inch arms, but he doesn't have deep speed, he doesn't have much burst, and he doesn't have any lateral movement skills.
Hayes' strengths are anticipation and his football IQ is very sound from what scouting reports say. He's also a physical player that constantly finds himself around the action.
Per Pro Football Focus, Hayes played 420 snaps in the slot last year, so it's very likely that's where he'll get his first crack at earning reps.
Round 6, No. 191: WR Trey Palmer, Nebraska

Per Tampa Bay Times’, Rick Stroud, the Buccaneers traded a 2024 fifth-rounder in order to move back into the sixth round and take Palmer at 191. When I say “move back into the sixth round”, I mean they kept their other sixth-rounder, pick No. 196.
Palmer is an extremely fast, dynamic deep threat that can also provide a boost in the Buccaneers' return game. The Athletic's Dane Bruger had Palmer rated as the 13th-best WR in the draft and as a 3rd/4th round talent.
Palmer lacks explosion and he's not going to win a bunch of jump balls or become a red-zone threat. But, he should be able to move around Dave Canales' offense, kind of like Tyler Lockett did in Seattle, and make plays in 2023.
Round 6, No. 196 overall: EDGE Jose Ramirez, Eastern Michigan

Ramirez has some pretty attractive traits when it comes to what teams are looking for in modern day EDGE rushers. He can bend and get to the top of the arc, he has good burst and he finishes plays.
He also led EMU in sacks, tackles for loss, and forced fumbles for two straight seasons and is an excellent teammate and leader.
It'll be interesting to see what happens with Ramirez in 2023. His best shot of making the roster is to win the EDGE4 position, which he certainly has a chance at doing.
