Buccaneers sign free agent DT Greg Gaines
The Buccaneers addressed an important position.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were never going to be big spenders in free agency based on a very tight salary cap, but that didn't mean that they weren't going to look at getting some good value from quality players.
Jason Licht was able to accomplish this task by signing free agent defensive tackle Greg Gaines.
Gaines was never going to headline any free agency class at his position, but he does bring some quality upside to a Buccaneer defense that does have a need for another fringe starter.
Tampa's newest outside free agent comes to the Bay by way of the LA Rams. Gaines has been on the roster for four years, but his last two years are the best indication of what he brings to the table.
Gaines started 25 games in the last two seasons, and during that time has has accounted for 8.5 sacks, ten tackles for loss, and 19 quarterback hits.
These numbers may not jump off the page, but Gaines does have a decent first step that should help with Tampa's potent pass rush.
If there is a coach that can get the most out of a guy like this, Todd Bowles is at the top of the list.
Good signing for the Bucs.
