The Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially started training camp practices on Wednesday and sure enough, there were plenty of updates and moments to break down.

So, let's not waste any time and dive right in.

Russell Gage isn't practicing

For Gage, the start of 2023 training camp is feeling awfully familiar to last year and that's because Gage suffered a hamstring during the early portions of the 2022 camp and it pretty much lingered all year long.

Per Pewter Report, Gage was the only Buccaneers player who wasn't practicing "in some capacity". This obviously isn't a good start for Gage, who was apparently hurt earlier in the offseason, per Baker Mayfield.

Cody Mauch as RG1?

This will certainly be something to monitor as camp progresses, but it appears as if Mauch was running with the 1s at RG.

Obviously, it's the first day of camp and nothing is set in stone. The Bucs are easing Ryan Jensen back into action, so there's a chance Nick Leverett is at center because of that, which automatically places Mauch at RG.

The key here, however, is one assumes Robert Hainsey would be lined up at center in this situation, since he's the backup center. If that were the case, it'd be interesting to see who would line up next to him. That would be a bigger indicator of who the staff sees as RG1, right now. So, we'll just have to continue to piece this puzzle together over the coming days and weeks.

Devin White doesn't appear to be a "hold-in"

White was seen participating in individual drills -and later participated in team drills- so even though neither Jason Licht nor Todd Bowles could officially say he'd practice today, it looks like all is well in terms of White's training camp participation.

Shaquil Barrett looks good during the first practice

This is huge news for the Bucs' pass rush, which really needs to step its game up in 2023. Barrett, who changed his number from 58 to 7 during the offseason, was cleared before camp and while yes, it's one practice, looked pretty good on the field.

This is a huge development for the Buccaneers. If he's good to go by Week 1 -and if he's even at 80%- it changes the tone on defense and how the Bucs can attack Kirk Cousins and co. in Minnesota.

Sean Tucker hits the field for the first time since the draft

It's a great development for the rookie, who was diagnosed with a heart condition that kept him out of offseason workouts. He's full cleared and ready to go now, however. The Bucs really like him, so the next few weeks will be a very important time for him.

Mike Evans enters his 10th training camp with the Buccaneers

And what's a Bucs training camp recap post without some Mike Evans footage? It'll be interesting to see how he fits into Dave Canales' offense, but as Bowles pointed out Tuesday, Evans can flourish no matter what's around him or the scheme in which he plays.
