The Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense is going to look a whole lot different next season.
Without Tom Brady and with a new offensive coordinator, it's new time in Tampa. It's a bit unpredictable as of right now, but their new OC broke down one aspect of the offense for the future.
Offensive coordinator Dave Canales believes that young running back Rachaad White has a skillset that can be a major positive for the Bucs offense.
“Oh yeah, what shocked me about that was the toughness in the style that he ran because I saw him as this versatile guy who you could run routes with him out of the backfield, split him out wide and do some things like that, plus the run game…
But then you see his attitude in person in Germany, just see the style that he ran downhill, he was aggressive. The violence that he played with and you go, ‘Wow, this guy could be special.’ He’s got some great skillset that really fits into our system.”
It's clear that Canales believes that White can play a massive role in the team's success next season and beyond.
The Bucs have White and Leonard Fournette both under contract next season, so a more even split is certainly possible. For the Bucs, it would make them most sense.
Canales preaches balance on his offense, and White can provide more of that with his talent in both the run and pass game.
"Being dogged in your commitment to being able to run the ball in any given situation and any given personnel. That being said, if the runs [are] not working, we're going to throw it a little bit more, [and] if the pass isn't working we're going to run it a little bit more.
There will be days, [where] if they're not fitting the runs right, we'll run the ball 40 times and there will be days where you've got a matchup outside with Mike [Evans] or Chris Godwin and we're blocking them pretty [well] and we can throw for 400-plus yards."
Bucs fans would love to see greater balance and explosiveness on offense next season.
Keep an eye on Rachaad White as an under-the-radar RB for Tampa Bay next season.
