Bucs RB Bucky Irving’s injury issues go from bad to worse on Sunday
The hits keep on coming for the Bucs’ star RB.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Bucky Irving wasn’t going to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday when the inter-regional NFC teams square off at Lumen Field in Seattle. Irving suffered a foot injury last weekend in a 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles and was on crutches and in a boot at practice during the week.
However, the second year running back’s injury issues are worse than previously believed. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Irving is dealing with a shoulder issue that was disclosed during the week that could keep him out for multiple weeks.
Bucky Irving is dealing with a shoulder injury that could be worse than his foot injury
Irving’s shoulder issue appeared on the practice report during the week, so it’s not something sneaky that the team didn’t disclose. However, with the foot issue taking up the headlines, the word “shoulder” appearing on the report didn’t get much attention.
Now, with Bucky dealing with what Schefter is calling a shoulder subluxation that he says could be more serious than the foot injury that could keep him out for multiple weeks, Irving’s health issues are of particular concern in the weeks ahead. And, for those reading the tea leaves, Irving had a cryptic social media post over the weekend.
The Bucs will turn to Rachaad White and Sean Tucker on Sunday against the Seahawks in Irving’s absence. Both are solid options, as White topped 1500 scrimmage yards in a strong 2023 season. Tucker exploded against the Saints in a 51-27 win last season with 192 scrimmage yards and 2 touchdowns, earning NFL Offensive Player of the Week honors in the process.
But Irving’s absence and the explosive element he brings out of the backfield will still be felt. We’ll see if clarity emerges in the coming days regarding just how long the Bucs will be without his services.
