Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs don’t hold back on Bucs’ failure to keep Mike Evans in Tampa Bay

We all knew there would be some kind of ripple effect if Mike Evans left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – both in the locker room and the community.

His departure leaves a crater-sized hole that’s nearly impossible to fill, as he was a pillar in both areas. It’s a sad day accompanied by a weird feeling, which is obviously an awkward mix no one likes to experience.

Unsurprisingly, Buccaneers star receiver Chris Godwin, who is also one of Evans’ closest friends after playing with him for nine seasons, let the world know exactly how he feels about watching his buddy and long-time teammate take his talents across the country in hopes of winning another Super Bowl ring.

Even Tristan Wirfs had something to say about it.

Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs clearly don’t like Evans’ departure, as expected

Both players took to X/Twitter to express their feelings about Evan’s departure and as expected, they don’t like the move.

Both guys are major leaders, which only adds to the weight that Evans takes with him. The Buccaneers locker room is going to have a totally different vibe and feel to it in 2026 and it’s intriguing to think about how the void gets filled.

Ultimately, this is a business, however, and they know that. They’ll probably be in similar situations one day, but that still doesn’t remove the sting that stems from the loss.
