The start of training camp is one of the most exciting periods of an NFL season and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers received some extra juice on Day 1 in the form of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

And, oh yea, he's the father of current Bucs safety Shilo Sanders in case you didn't know.

Despite Sanders' fame, Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was his usually-stoic self when asked about Prime's presence at training camp. Still, it was pretty cool to see the Colorado Buffaloes head coach hanging out while the Bucs got to work.

"(It was a) normal day for me," Bowles told reporters. "As far as I'm concerned, it's a father coming to see his son, like all of us would be doing."

There's a path for Shilo Sanders to make the 53-man roster, but he has to carve it out

With Tykee Smith now in the fold at safety, the Bucs have their top guys set in him and Antoine Winfield Jr. Then, there's Kaevon Merriweather, who has plenty of experience in the Bucs' system and also impressed when called upon in 2024.

So, the Bucs could very well have the first three safety spots wrapped up, but Merriweather isn't a lock by any means. Traditionally, they carry four safeties on the 53-man roster, therefore, there may only be one spot up for grabs between Sanders and the other three safeties currently on the roster in J.J. Roberts, Marcus Banks, and Rashad Wisdom.

Regardless, Sanders got off to a good start during OTAs and minicamp and even received a couple of compliments from Bowles and other Bucs players. If he has a strong camp, then there is certainly a world where he's on the 53-man roster at the end of August.
