Here we go again. Criticizing a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers organization almost always ends in someone looking silly.
The polarizing levels of play and performance from members of this franchise ensures that whether you think someone is good at their job or bad, you're probably right.
Devin White has been the most recent player to get this treatment from the media, and he sure picked a Hell of a time to have one of the best performances of his career.
The Buccaneers just dominated a clear playoff team in the Jaguars, and a huge part of this was accomplished due to an extremely impressive all-around performance from Devin White.
White finished a statement win with a statement stat line. While he had just four tackles, 1.5 sacks, a timely interception early in the game, and a forced fumble was one of the most tangible defensive box scores for a member of the roster.
During a time of so much adversity, this was the type of game that showed why White's fans and coaches defend him so much. While it wasn't perfect, it sure seemed to click tonight, and that at least validates White's supporters enough to keep the narrative going that the Buccaneers might actually retain their defensive captain.
A murky situation only becomes murkier. Did Bowles really intend to bench White last week? Was there a real injury? Was this simply a come-to-Jesus moment for White that he has come out the other end as a better player?
At this point, it doesn't really matter. The only thing you can say after this game is that Devin White played about as well as he could (with the refs working against him too), and that is all a guy like that can do in the situation he is in.
Love him or hate him, you have to appreciate the work ethic when the rubber actually meets the road. As long as the Bucs keep winning, most fans won't care.
