Former Bucs OC Josh Grizzard getting a chance to land on his feet with a recent Super Bowl champion
Tampa Bay’s ex-OC will get consideration for the same role with the Philadelphia Eagles.
There were a number of reasons the 2025 season was a failure for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The defense couldn’t stop giving up big plays over the second half of the season. Special teams was a disaster for the vast majority of the season.
However, the once-formidable Bucs offense looked anything but that throughout the season. And first-year offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was given his walking papers after the season by Todd Bowles as a result.
It appears as though one notable franchise is willing to consider giving Grizzard a second chance immediately, and in the same role. Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Philadelphia Eagles will be interviewing Grizzard for their vacant offensive coordinator role.
Eagles interviewing former Bucs OC Josh Grizzard for the same role
The Eagles promoted Kevin Patullo after Kellen Moore left the team after their Super Bowl LIX victory to take the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching job. But with Patullo in charge, Philly’s offense fell on hard times in 2025, dropping to 19th in scoring offense and 24th in yardage. Those are particularly poor numbers given the superior talent and playmakers that the Eagles possession.
Ironically, the same argument was made this season about Grizzard in his one year in Tampa Bay. From 2024 to this season, Tampa Bay dropped from fourth to 17th in points per game and third to 21st in yards per game. The Bucs, like the Eagles, have far too much talent on their offense to be in the bottom half of the league in those stats.
Injuries cost a number of players significant time, including Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Bucky Irving, starting tackles Tristan Wirfs and Luke Goedeke, and starting guard Cody Mauch, but even when the team was largely healthy at the end of the season, the offense sputtered and was too predictable. The passing game never got on track, and the ground game was a struggle for basically the entire season.
The Eagles will surely do their due diligence, and Grizzard will be just one of many candidates to get a look at the job. But Grizzard will need to wow them with his interview because the product on the field this year surely won’t.
