Sometimes folks on television make mistakes. It happens to everyone in the media world. No one has gone through their career without making some kind of error.

That includes Jason McIntyre this week on “The Herd” on FS1. McIntyre was talking with host Colin Cowherd about Mike Evans’ pending free agency and the pursuit that several teams will have for him. And that should be the case. No qualms there. Buffalo, Kansas City, Houston. He should have a number of teams pushing for a Super Bowl dialing his agent’s number.

But then MacIntyre made a quip that was just flat out wrong, and it felt a bit like a dig towards the Tampa Bay franchise in the process. He said that Evans is motivated to chase a Super Bowl and that he “hasn’t sniffed one in Tampa”.

Narrator: he has, in fact, sniffed one.

FS1’s Jason McIntyre said regarding Mike Evans that that Tampa ‘hasn’t sniffed’ a Super Bowl when in fact they won one with him

“Mike Evans, unbelievable career in Tampa,” McIntyre said. “One of the best receivers in the league. Great red zone threat. There’s talk he could retire, but now according to his agent, he is going to return for a thirteenth season.

“However, it’s unclear if he’s staying in Tampa or going somewhere else. Now, listen, this guy has had eleven straight seasons with 1000 yards. He’s still very good. He’s not, like, still a top five. I don’t know about a top ten anymore. But he’s still very good. I think he could help a contender. I mean, if you’re Buffalo, you’re just getting Josh Allen on the horn. Please, recruit this guy to Buffalo. Because, if he doesn’t stay in Tampa — and they have some good receivers — somebody’s going to get a good one in Mike Evans.”

After Colin Cowherd mentioned his Hall of Fame candidacy, McIntyre followed up with a completely incorrect final thought on Evans’ time in Tampa.

“Obviously last season, had some injuries. Only played eight games, so some people are going to be like, ‘well, I don’t know if I want Mike Evans.’ Listen, he’s going to be motivated to chase a Super Bowl. Hasn’t sniffed one in Tampa.

Well, that’s weird. I seem to remember Evans being a part of the Bucs’ magical run in Tom Brady’s first season with the team that ended with a 31-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV. Not only did Evans sniff the Super Bowl, he actually played in it with a 31-yard catch.

And to the extent McIntyre might be talking about sniffing one recently (which was not what he said, but still, giving him the biggest benefit of the doubt here for argument’s sake), Evans and his teammates were on a boat with the Lombardi Trophy five calendar years ago this month. There are still teammates of his on the Bucs’ roster from the Super Bowl, including Tristan Wirfs, Chris Godwin, Vita Vea, Jamel Dean, Anthony Nelson, and Antoine Winfield, Jr. It was not that long ago.

There’s a possibility that he sees a better opportunity in 2026 to win a Super Bowl than Tampa Bay, and that’s understandable. Someone like Buffalo or Houston might be closer to a complete team that could contend for a title. But make no mistake. He was a world champion with the Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay an afterthought in the mainstream eye. That’s part of playing in a small market and being a part of the NFC South. But you’d still expect those who cover the sport to at least recognize teams who have won the Super Bowl in the relatively recent past.
