Bucs’ latest injury update on Mike Evans confirms unfortunate suspicion that everyone had after he got hurt in Week 3
The Bucs’ star receiver is going to miss some time with a hamstring injury.
It was pretty clear that Mike Evans was going to miss time simply based off how he first reacted to the hamstring injury he suffered in Week 3 against the New York Jets.
He was clearly frustrated and was seen throwing his helmet to the ground as he entered the tunnel on his way to the locker room. At that point, everyone pretty much knew what the outcome was going to be, they just need the official word.
Said word came in Tuesday. Per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Evans is expected to miss multiple weeks. However, the injury isn’t as bad as last year’s, which caused him to miss three games.
Mike Evans will probably miss 2-3 weeks
The phrasings “multiple weeks” and “isn’t as bad as last year’s” signals a 2-3 week window before Evans returns to the field. Evans missed three games last year, but there’s a chance he could’ve missed a fourth if the Bucs’ bye week didn’t come after his third missed game.
That gave him an extra week to heal ahead of the Bucs’ Week 12 matchup against the New York Giants. Evans played well in that matchup, catching five passes for 68 yards on six targets. So, if he returns against the San Francisco 49ers or Detroit Lions, he should be able to hit the ground running and get back to making plays.
