Tampa Bay Buccaneers lose starter for the season that no one had any idea clue was coming
The hits just keep on coming in Tampa Bay.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had their fair share of injury hits this season and then some. Tristan Wirfs is still working his way back from a knee procedure in July. Luke Goedeke is dealing with a nagging foot injury that took him out of Monday’s 20-19 win over the Texans. DL Calijah Kancey also suffered a season-ending pectoral injury on Monday night.
As it turns out, that wasn’t the only season-ending injury suffered in Houston. Per multiple outlets, Cody Mauch suffered a knee injury during the win over the Texans and will have season-ending surgery to repair it.
Bucs RG Cody Mauch suffered a season-ending knee injury on Monday against the Houston Texans
Although Mauch appeared on the injury report on Wednesday, the news is particularly eye opening because Mauch managed to play every snap on Monday. He logged all 80 offensive snaps that the Bucs played. It’s a tough blow for a player who really turned the corner last year and more than held his own on the right side for one of the best rushing attacks in the league.
Now, it puts an already battered offensive line into basically triage mode at this point in time. Wirfs is practicing, but his availability for Sunday against the New York Jets is still an unknown. Goedeke’s foot injury had him limping noticeably leaving the field in Houston.
With those unknowns, the Bucs could again have to shift around their offensive line, depending on who can go and who can’t. The Bucs did sign Dan Feeney off the Bills’ practice squad, so they have another candidate to at least provide depth, which is becoming very, very important lately.
