The Bucs announced on Monday they have release punter Trenton Gill.
Gill took over as the unquestioned starter after Jake Camarda was waived on October 22. Camarda had been inactive for multiple games, with Gill getting called up from the practice squad in his place.
However, the upgrade wasn't apparent, and Sunday was a disastrous showing from the Bucs' now former punter.
Gill shanked a 22-yard punt in the second quarter that set the Panthers up at the Bucs' 36-yard line. The Panthers would find their way into the end zone 4 plays later on a Bryce Young run to give them a 10-7 lead.
With the Bucs ahead 20-16 with 3 minutes left, Gill's kickoff failed to reach the landing zone, and the Bucs were penalized with the ball placed at the Carolina 40-yard line. The Panthers again drove the field and scored a touchdown with 30 seconds left to go up 23-20.
The Bucs have another punter on their practice squad in Jack Browning, a rookie out of San Diego State. However, they will surely bring in some free agents for a tryout in very short order to find Gill's successor.
Anthony Nelson’s huge moment in Bucs’ win over Panthers was overshadowed by a much bigger delivery
It’s been quite a weekend for the veteran linebacker
