It was never a matter of if, but rather of when an interview request for offensive coordinator Liam Coen would arrive at One Buc Place.  It didn't take long.

According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Jacksonville Jaguars have reached out to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for permission to interview Coen for their vacant head coaching position.

The Jaguars' position became available after the team parted ways with Doug Pederson on Sunday after the team's season-ending 23-20 overtime loss to Indianapolis.

Jacksonville is an interesting possibility for Coen.  They have a talented young quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, a potential number one receiver in Brian Thomas, Jr., and a pair of good young running backs in Travis Etienne and Tank Bigsby.  With how Coen has been able to make things work with the Bucs' offense, particularly with using Bucky Irving and Rachaad White on the field at the same time, there are some parallels there that could be a good fit for the Jags and Coen.

Of course, there will be plenty of other candidates in the mix, including possibly Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, perhaps the hottest name on the coaching market for the second straight cycle.

For Bucs fans concerned about the distraction of head coaching interviews during a playoff week, the interviews with coordinators are virtual, so it shouldn't take much time away from preparation during the week. Teams also can't interview in person candidates from playoff teams until either their team is eliminated or the bye week before the Super Bowl arrives if they win their conference.

Of course, the Bucs would surely love to keep Coen in house.  However, there's no doubt that he's going to have some serious interest around the league.  We'll see how things shake out in the coming weeks.
