Free-agent safety Tyrann Mathieu is seemingly a perfect fit for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Bucs could use a safety after letting Jordan Whitehead walk in free agency and Mathieu is easily the best option available.

Mathieu, who is coming off two straight Pro-Bowl appearances, is a versatile defender who would bring elite leadership traits and toughness to the Bucs' defense.

The former LSU star also has an interesting connection to the Buccaneers — his fiancé is Bowles' stepdaughter. Mathieu is close with the entire Bowles family.

On Thursday, during his introductory press conference, Bowles was asked if the Bucs have any interest in signing Mathieu.

Bowles didn't shoot down the idea, though he noted that re-signing defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh is currently the team's top priority and cash, at the moment, is tight.

It doesn't seem like Mathieu is at the top of the list right now for the Buccaneers. But as wild as this offseason has been, I wouldn't rule out the Honey Badger possibly landing in Tampa.

Mathieu said recently that he wants to go to a team with strong leadership in the locker room. The Buccaneers, with Tom Brady, certainly have that great leadership.

We'll see how this plays out. It doesn't seem like Mathieu is in a rush, so this might drag out a bit before the talented defensive back signs somewhere.
