Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles is a relatively quiet and reserved man.  Well, at least when he's on the sidelines with a headset on.

And that's also usually the case in press conferences as well.  The mild-mannered veteran coach is careful with his words and rarely gives much in the way of emotional statements.

However, on Monday as the Buccaneers cleaned out their lockers following their 31-23 loss to the Detroit Lions in the divisional round, Bowles made an eye-opening statement while meeting with the media about long-time Buccaneer WR Mike Evans, who is set to become a free agent in the offseason.

Asked about whether he's thought about Mike Evans playing in another team's jersey, Bowles had a strong response.

"I don't even think about it. I don't like to be asked about it. I don't want to know about it. And I hope that hell that does not happen."

It's understandable why Bowles feels that way.  Everyone from the front office to the fans hopes that the Buccaneers and Mike Evans can find a way for #13 to stay in Tampa beyond March when free agency begins.

And Bowles understandably shares that interest.  After all, without Evans' performance in 2023, who knows if Bowles is talking about next year rather than heading out of town himself.

Evans had an excellent season, catching 79 passes for 1255 yards and a co-league-leading 13 touchdowns, which he shared with Tyreek Hill.  He also punctuated his regular season with a postseason career best 146 receiving yards against the Lions.  One last thing for Jason Licht and the Glazers to remember before contract negotiations begin.

Bowles might not like thinking about it, but until Evans signs on the dotted line, it's likely going to be on his mind and on the minds of Buccaneer fans.
