Buccaneers head coach continues to prove why he won't last long

While there have certainly been some bright spots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the last few months, it is still hard for some Buccaneers fans to get excited about the next year due to some obvious limiting factors.

As it stands, the Bucs have, at best, the third-best quarterback in the division, and they quite obviously have the worst coach in the division in Todd Bowles.

You can argue it all you want, but Bowles is probably the biggest piece holding this team back, and he is absolutely not long for this job.

The Buccaneers had no choice but to hire Bowles as their new head coach after he created one of the best defenses in the NFL largely from scratch. However, what Bowles has done since that promotion has epitomized the idea that some guys are better as coordinators.

Bowles has obliterated one of the best offenses in the NFL by moving back towards a conservative, run-heavy approach that is emblematic of an older version of the sport. In addition, Bowles has made it clear that he does not believe in the use of analytics, so it gets obvious fast where the head coach hurts this team.

To make everything else worse, Bowles is perhaps one of the strangest coaches in the NFL to get an interview from, and this all leads to one likely conclusion; Bowles doesn't really know what he is doing.

This was epitomized last night in a confusing quote from Bowles about the quarterback situation:

One quick scroll through the comments on this should show you where Bowles stands with the fanbase.

No one believes this for a second, yet Bowles wants the fans to think that he played Kyle Trask for a half, then went to the obvious QB3 for a few reps, and then would move on to the obvious starter in Baker Mayfield to play with the guys that won't even be on the practice squad in a few weeks?

How does that make any sense at all?

At this point, the only way that Bowles looks good when making outlandish statements like this is if you believe that he is just lying over and over again intentionally, but how that actually helps is beyond this writer.

One way or another, you can defend the man that played a huge role in getting this team to a Super Bowl all you want. It won't make a difference with the fact that he isn't going to be the head coach of this team much longer, and quotes like last night's will continue to erode any support that he has remaining.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are adjusting to new life under Todd Bowles after he took over for Bruce Arians back in March. While it's not too much of an adjustment for the players, fans are left wondering how the team will perform under its new leader. Even if there is plenty of familiarity with Bowles […]
