Todd Bowles and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came into the season in a very different position than they are currently in.

As of now, the Bucs actually have some hype in the NFC South and look like a playoff team. That wasn't always the case.

Last season was disastrous for the Buccaneers, and a huge part of the blame fell on head coach Todd Bowles. It would be more than fair to say that Bowles came into the season on the hot seat after underachieving with a team that had Super Bowl aspirations. He has now put those concerns to bed for the time being.

Todd Bowles lost a lot of support as the head coach of the Buccaneers last year. While he was extremely successful as a defensive coordinator, his head coaching mistakes made it seem like the Bucs made a mistake in promoting him.

One would think that it shouldn't take much to win football games with Tom Brady at quarterback and a loaded roster.

Still, despite all the disappointment with last season, Bowles has been able to completely shift the narrative with what the Buccaneers have done this year.

In the same way that underachieving with a good team hurts a resume, overachieving with a team that lacked those expectations does plenty of good.

Tampa's defense looks solid, and it has chewed through starters due to injuries. Despite being without key players each week, this defense looks like one of the best in the NFL, and that is a testament to how good Bowles has done constructing this roster and putting the depth guys in positions to produce when it matters.

Even if a deep playoff run probably isn't on the table, what Bowles has done this season should be celebrated, and keeping his job beyond this year seems all the more likely.
