The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-6) have been riddled with injuries to key players all season long and star left tackle Tristan Wirfs is the latest name added to the list.
Wirfs injured his MCL during Sunday's 23-20 loss to the San Francisco 49ers (5-4) and had to leave the game early. At the time, NFL insiders reported the initial impression was a sprained MCL, but it was not confirmed at the time.
On Monday morning, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport broke the news that Wirfs' injury is indeed a sprained MCL, but it's not severe, nor is it torn or something worse. It should keep him out a couple of weeks. If that's the case, then Wirfs could possibly miss just one, or zero, games since Week 11 is the Bucs' bye week.
"We have to get healthy, number one," Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles told reporters after the 49ers loss. "The guys have to take care of themselves – that’s the biggest thing. When we come back… we’ve seen every offense and defense and special teams that’s going to happen, we just have to execute.”
The three-time Pro Bowler is easily the Bucs' best offensive lineman and he's arguably the best player on the entire team. So it's easy to see why this is very good news for Tampa Bay.
Wirfs having yet another very good year before the injury. Justin Skule is expected to take his place if he can't play in Week 12.
