The Tennessee Titans entered the 2019 NFL Draft needing to do something to upgrade their offense, which ranked 27th in the league last season in terms of points. In Ole Miss receiver A.J. Brown, they may have found exactly what they needed.

"I'm really excited, man," Brown said shortly after being drafted. "They're just right down the street from me. I've got family in Nashville, so I'm really excited to join this organization. I'm happy to be a part of it."

Brown fits right in with what Titans general manager Jon Robinson likes at the receiver position. He is versatile, excels at creating separation, and produced at a high level against top-level competition in the SEC.

He is the fourth receiver Robinson has drafted who had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at the college level.

"You can't just be the fastest guy or the biggest guy," Brown said, "you have to know defenses. You've just got to watch football. I watch football 24/7, I watch Julio Jones run routes all the time."

At Ole Miss, Brown primarily played in the slot. He figures to not see a ton of time there with the Titans at least early in his career, as the team recently paid free agent receiver Adam Humphries to fill that role.

Luckily for the Titans, Brown believes he will be able to do more things than one. "At Ole Miss, I was a slot guy," he said, "but I can do both; I can play inside and outside. I can run any route…I'm trying to be versatile, so inside and outside, whatever (inaudible) you need."

The Titans' offseason has mostly followed a theme of trying to help quarterback Marcus Mariota, as the team needs to get an honest look at him in a contract year. Brown's reliability could be another important piece of the puzzle to helping Mariota succeed.

"I'm really ready because, you know, as a rookie, I have to come in and build that trust with [Mariota]," Brown said. "That's going to be big. With him, he's going to get a complete receiver. Anything he needs, I'm going to be there."

Through two rounds of the draft, the Titans have added a capable weapon to their passing game and a disruptor to their defensive line. They have filled perhaps their two biggest needs with their first two picks.
