There was a time during the Tennessee Titans 2024 season in which everybody assumed they'd be firmly in the running for one of the top quarterbacks in the draft. It wasn't until Will Levis returned in November from his his shoulder injury that this assumption was brought into question.

In the month of football we've watched since, the idea that Tennessee will be in the top-pick QB sweepstakes this spring has been completely erased. And if you talk to draft experts, they'll tell you that's probably a merciful development.

"I have been covering the NFL Draft for almost two decades — and the 2025 class might be the most polarizing of them all." That's how Dane Brugler, NFL Draft analyst par excellence, began his first official mock draft of the cycle this week. There are many reasons why this is the case with this crop of players, none more evident than the QB class. the very next line in the article (which you should read!) addresses this:

"Some NFL scouts believe one or two quarterbacks are deserving of this year’s first round, while others think drafting any QB in Round 1 would be a mistake. A comment from one AFC scout: 'Man, I feel bad for the teams trying to find one (quarterback) in this group.'"

I personally have been preaching that this is a 1 quarterback class. But there are plenty of people I know in the draft space who I respect who think this is a 0 quarterback class. The moral of the story: Nobody thinks highly of these options. There are always surprises that come from the draft. But this menu of QB options reeks of the kind of class that could get many people fired.

As for the Titans, they are in a very different spot today than they were a month ago. Tennessee topped-out in the projected 2025 draft order at 2nd overall, and Will Levis was on the sideline healing from a throwing-shoulder injury after a nightmare beginning to his season. Things seemed to be headed directly towards Ran Carthon and Brian Callahan spending their entire spring scouting and debating QB options in a crappy class.

Will Levis has put a very strong month of football on tape since that point, and Tennessee is mercifully out of range for a top-5 selection. Right now, they're slated to pick 7th and have a very favorable remaining schedule. The combination of Levis development and increasingly difficult draft positioning should keep them out of the QB sweepstakes in the 1st round.
