Cam Ward is breathing a lot easier after Titans’ latest injury updates ahead of matchup vs. Jaguars
The Titans’ franchise quarterback will have two of his primary weapons available against the Jags.
Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans are coming off the best performance of the year and are looking to keep building in Week 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Some questions faced Ward and Co., however, in terms of offensive personnel. On Friday, tight end Chig Okwonko and receiver Elic Ayomanor were both listed as questionable with separate injuries. Ayomanor is dealing with the hamstring issue that caused him to miss the Seattle Seahawks matchup in Week 12 and Okwonko is still dealing with the foot injury that he picked up back in Week 8. Both players have combined to catch 63 passes for 711 yards and two touchdowns so far this year.
It doesn’t sound like much on the surface, but that accounts for 28% of Ward’s completions, 32% of his passing yards, and almost a third of his touchdown passes on the year.
Fortunately for Ward, both players are expected to play on Sunday, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Both players can certainly make an impact against an opportunistic, yet beatable, Jags defense. The secondary gives up an average of 240 passing yards per game and opposing quarterbacks have thrown 22 passing touchdowns against the unit – those numbers are eighth- and fifth-most, respectively. Again, it’s an opportunistic unit and that’s based on the fact the Jags secondary has picked off opposing signal-callers 13 times, which is second-most. But the point stands – it can be taken advantage of.
Especially when considering the lack of sacks and pressure so far this year. Jacksonville has just 21 sacks on the season and pressures opposing QBs just 34.3% of the time. Both numbers are below league average and are encouraging for a stagnant offense like the one the Titans possess.
Either way, Ward needs all the help he can get and he’ll have that in regard to his pass-catchers on Sunday. We’ll see if he can keep the arrow pointing up.
