NASHVILLE — No one but coach Brian Callahan and his staff know exactly what an NFL offense quarterbacked by 2025 No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward will look like yet. Hell, even Callahan and Co. cannot be sure for about a month into the regular season.
Ward, however, is very optimistic.
Cam Ward believes the Titans offense has legitimate potential
A month and a half of offseason program and one day into his rookie training camp has Ward singing his teammates praises while also holding them to a higher standard.
"Everything is always measured off of a win or a loss," said Ward. "Practice is 80 plays a day. That's a whole game. We were mid at practice today, offensively, but it was the first day. You get better every day. We've just got to repeat and not stay the same. Just try to get better."
Two things we're learning about Ward as a pro: he's made of the right shit, and he's raising the standards in Tennessee.
Wednesday's practice was a fine day by all accounts. Jim Wyatt of TennesseeTitans.com charted Ward as 12-of-17 in 7-on-7 and team drills with a few standard misses and some solid completions. If anything, you'd almost like to see Ward make more mistakes moving forward so that he can have things to correct on practice tape through the rest of camp and preseason.
A solid outing simply isn't good enough for the Heisman Trophy-finalist.
"I feel really good about where we came out of the spring," Callahan said before practice. "I think at the end of the spring, he was starting to really understand and feel what that timing felt like. And this is going to be a huge point of emphasis in his early part of camp to get as comfortable with it as possible, as quickly as we can. And I think he's up to that task."
The Titans are certainly counting on it.
