The Tennessee Titans spent the run-up to Week 3 unsure of who exactly the Green Bay Packers planned on playing at QB.
Now heading into Week 4, the Titans are left to wonder once again. But this time, I don’t even think their opponent knows who they’ll be playing.
Miami Dolphins Head Coach Mike McDaniel gave the media an update on their quarterback situation Tuesday. With their highly-paid starter Tua Tagovailoa out for the foreseeable future due to his ongoing concussion issues, backup Skylar Thompson started in Week 3.
unfortunately, Thompson went down with a chest injury early in the 2nd half. McDaniel called him “day-to-day”, and said that the team is still mulling over their other options.
Thompson was 13/19 for 107yds before he got hurt, having been sacked 5 times in a little over a half of football. Based on the way his coaches have talked about him in the past, it seems fair to assume he’s their clear #1 option to play on Monday night if healthy.
if Thompson can’t go, the Dolphins options become rather dire. NFL journeyman Tim Boyle was who came in to finish the Week 3 game, and he looked like he’s always looked: practically unplayable.
I don’t see Boyle as a tenable option whatsoever. If he somehow gets the nod for Week 4, the Titans will be in one of the most must-win matchup's they've ever been in.
Then there’s former Pro Bowler (yes, really) Tyler “Snoop” Huntley. The Dolphins signed him off the Ravens practice squad just over a week ago in the wake of the Tua injury. He was inactive in Week 3, but now seems to be the odds-on favorite to get the start in Week 4.
Huntley is 3-6 as a starter with the Ravens, throwing 8 touchdowns to 7 interceptions. Huntley hilariously found himself in the Pro Bowl in 2022 after going 2-2 and keeping the Ravens regular season afloat.
Huntley was a deep alternate behind Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson. Burrow and Lawrence were on the team, Mahomes was playing in the Super Bowl, and Allen, Jackson, and Herbert were all injured. So Huntley got the call, and the rest is history.
Needless to say, Titans fans should hold this team (however discouraging) to the standard of beating Thompson, Boyle or Huntley. No matter who ends up running out of that tunnel, the Titans must find a way to make them look like the backup that they are, and salvage a 1-3 record before their bye.
Tennessee Titans loss to Green Bay Packers was so much worse than a man-handling from Malik Willis
This wasn’t a QB simply slicing and dicing their way to a victory, it was actually worse than that for Tennessee.
