ESPN Insider reports on "building sentiment" that Miami QB Cam Ward will be No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick
It is still too early in the process to be sure
NASHIVLLE — ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel recently shared some reportin on the 2025 QB1 debate, regarding Miami passer Cam Ward. The Tennessee Titans currently hold the No. 1 pick in April's NFL Draft.
Tennessee also has a desperate need at quarterback.
Cam Ward's NFL Draft stock remains strong
Ward and Colorado's Shedeur Sanders are regarded by draft analysts as, likely, the only two first-round choices in this year's quarterback class.
While we will have no idea how teams ultimately have these prospects graded, the drop-off from Ward and Sanders to prospects like Ohio State's Will Howard or Jalen Milroe of Alabama is significant. Neither Ward nor Sanders participated in last week's Senior Bowl, leaving little changed ahead of this month's NFL Scouting Combine.
"In a draft that projects to be defined by the Cam Ward vs. Shedeur Sanders debate for QB1, the building sentiment from scouts and executives this week was Ward is likely to be the No. 1 pick," Thamel wrote. "This is more anecdotal than scientific, as neither passer was in town. But Ward's versatility and ability to run stand out as a separating traits."
The Titans could draft Ward, or Sanders.
They could also find a partner to trade out of the top spot in search of draft capital. Every day that passes between now and the 2025 draft at the end of April will be spent determining which path puts Tennessee in the best possible position to succeed. General manager Mike Borgonzi takes over a Titans roster that is in a state of disrepair for a third consecutive offseason.
Borgonzi must nail his first draft running the show for Tennessee to have any chance of rebounding from a 3-14 season.
