Former Tennessee Titans GM Jon Robinson joined The Chase And Big Joe Show on 102.5 The Game in Nashville Thursday morning. This was his first time publicly addressing a number of hot topics that have continued to plague the franchise years after his firing, including the move that many believe was the final straw for his tenure: trading AJ Brown and trying to replace him with Treylon Burks.

Host Joe Dubin didn’t pull any punches out of the gate, addressing the move and the fallout that’s transpired since. Credit to Robinson for answering to the best of his ability, which remains hamstrung by disclosure agreements with the team that have not yet expired. What he was able to say, though, was perhaps vindicating for fans still haunted by the worst trade in franchise history:

“That’s a topic everybody probably is tuning in to hear about… I would love to give all the details, I can’t go into the details on it. But there was just a lot of discussion that went into that decision, ultimately it was my responsibility to make the decision… If I had one of those mulligans, I’d probably do that.

Perhaps it’s stating the obvious, but it’s nice to hear it from the horse’s mouth anyways. For as infuriating as this move remains for Titans fans (and probably the current regime), there’s no telling how much it’s haunted Robinson in the years since he left the GM chair. Jon was and is always a class act, and it’s truly a shame the way his promising executive career went off the rails beginning in 2020.

This discussion is particularly timely, as Treylon Burks was cut earlier this week following his latest unfortunate injury: a broken collarbone. Burks’ Titans career comes to a close with less than 700 total yards and a single touchdown. Meanwhile, in the three seasons since AJ Brown was sent to the Eagles, he’s racked up over 4000 yards and 25 total touchdowns.

“And that’s nothing against Treylon (Burks) or anybody else, but I think AJ (Brown) has gone on to have a great run. I’m proud of him. I’m proud of where he’s at and what he’s been able to accomplish.”

Robinson took it on the chin, admitting he’d do things differently if given the chance.

“But sure. I mean, in hindsight, if you had a do-over, I’d be an idiot to sit here and say ‘no! I’d do it again!’ Like, no, you’d do it different. But we made the decision that we made and then, you know, the rest is what it is.”

For some, this probably comes as closure. for others, it may reignite some anger over the whole terrible, preventable situation. But good on Robinson for being willing to get on local radio and talk bluntly about the decision that his tenure is most remembered for.
