The big question ahead of Packers-Titans is who will be under center for Green Bay.
We've heard a lot from both national and local reporters throughout the week, and if you're wondering who the Titans should want to face, I wrote all it on Wednesday.
On Friday we got our final update from Packers HQ before gameday. Head Coach Matt LaFleur told reporters that Love will be listed as questionable on the injury report.
Notably, when asked if Love had actually been medically cleared to play, LaFleur said “We’re working on that”.
Whether an injured player can go is typically up to him and his coaches. But if the team medical staff deems him too hurt to even give it a try, then it’s out of their hands. So until Love’s doctor gives the Packers the green light, he won’t even be eligible to try to play.
LeFleur said on Thursday that they'd be giving Love all the way up to the inactives announcement on Sunday, 90 minutes before kickoff. The Packers public stance seems to be that a morning warmup and workout will be the final determining factor for a player just on the edge of being healthy enough.
Surely in consideration is their long-term plans, as they face a divisional opponent in the Vikings in Week 4. One would think that in a season with Super Bowl aspirations, taking a conservative approach to a September non-conference game would be the correct approach. Especially when the player in question is your franchise.
When a big-impact player is borderline to see the field, Vegas is always an interesting place to look for the clues. The Titans came into Week 3 as a near unanimous field goal favorite at home.
When the "Love might play!" media circus began on Wednesday, the line quickly dropped to as low as Titans -1.5. But as of Friday morning, the line has settled back up at -3, indicating the books (and the sharpest bettors) believe it'll be Willis after all.
Titans fans and enjoyers of drama should be hoping Willis gets the start. Who doesn't love a good Revenge Game storyline? Especially for a player who was so recently on the team he's now facing.
