NASHVILLE – It was announced on Saturday morning that the Los Angeles Rams were officially granting permission for veteran QB Matthew Stafford's agent to speak with other teams.

Naturally, this update captured the attention of every fan of a team in the market for a quarterback. The Tennessee Titans are one team specifically that would make a lot of sense to be Stafford's next home.

Titans head coach Brian Callahan was Stafford’s quarterbacks coach in Detroit from 2016-2017. There is a really strong relationship and some history between Callahan and Stafford and even at 37-years-old, Stafford is an elite post-snap processor, throws with accuracy, plays with toughness, and is an exemplary teammate.

That's exactly what the Titans need, even if it's as a veteran bridge quarterback that elevates the team's floor in 2025.

I believe the Titans would have a ton of interest if Stafford was made available by the Rams, hence why this update from Tom Pelissero caught my eye. But a clarifying tweet from Ian Rapoport added some more context to the situation with Stafford and the Rams, and it's spoiling all the fun. It would seem as if Stafford's agent speaking to other teams is more of a measure to get Stafford a new contract with LA…Not the beginning of the end.

It was a far fetched idea to begin with that the Rams would play ball on dealing Stafford after nearly making it back to the NFC Championship Game. The combo of Stafford and Sean McVay has been able to keep the Rams afloat during what was supposed to be a miniature "rebuild."

Part of me believed it was possible that McVay would want to reset and get younger. After all, Cooper Kupp is expected to be dealt and Stafford's wife has made it publicly known that they disagreed with that decision. I saw a world where LA was trading Stafford for draft picks and getting cap flexibility to go sign Sam Darnold. But that was probably more of a pipe dream.

The deeper we get into the offseason and the closer we get to the free agency window being opened, the less likely it feels that Stafford will put on a different uniform in 2025. Titans fans may want to direct their focus elsewhere.
