On Wednesday, Tennessee Titans head head coach Mike Vrabel announced that rookie Will Levis will be the starting quarterback moving forward, which pushes veteran Ryan Tannehill into a backup role.

"We're going to go with Will, we think that's the best opportunity for our football team right now," said Vrabel. "I think Ryan will progress here through this week and hopeful [for him] to be a backup for us."

Vrabel discussed the decision with Mike Keith on "The Mike Vrabel Show" and it was apparent that the decision was an emotional one for the Titans head coach.

"It's the decision I made," said Vrabel while appearing to fight through some emotions.

Here's the clip of Vrabel's emotional response (via CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani).

Tannehill has been in Nashville with Vrabel since the 2019 season. The duo nearly went to the Super Bowl in their first season together. The addition of Tannehill to the Titans' roster after the 2018 season was a big reason why Tennessee was able to win 32 regular season games from 2019 to 2021 (and make three straight playoff trips while winning two AFC South division titles).

Vrabel's decision to bench Tannehill in favor of Levis essentially confirms that the end of Tannehill's career with the Titans is rapidly approaching. It's certainly understandable why it was an emotional decision for Vrabel. Closing a chapter is never easy.
