NASHVILLE — While the Tennessee Titans conduct the search for the club’s next head coach after a second consecutive 3-14 finish, the NFL playoffs roll on. Looking at you, Philadelphia and Green Bay.
Philadelphia Eagles: Losing Excellerates Everything
Coach Nick Sirianni once embodied everything the Eagles wanted to be—brash, emotional, fearless.
Those qualities look far less impressive while losing at home in the first round to a wounded San Francisco 49ers team. So ended Philadelphia’s Super Bowl championship defense with last images of Sirianni and star receiver A.J. Brown barking at each other on the sideline Sunday. The Eagles have been suspect all season long, and their deficiencies saw them fall well short of the championship expectations.
Sirianni’s .694 career win percentage ranks 5th all-time in NFL History, but falling short in the biggest moment of the season puts him under that unforgiving Philly microscope once again.
Green Bay Packers: “Good” is never enough
Matt LaFleur is one of the most successful coaches in Packers history.
That’s not hyperbole. In seven seasons running the show, LaFleur has made the postseason six times. The Packers, however, hold an outsized level of hatred for the Chicago Bears as the NFL’s oldest rivalry. Blowing a 21-3 lead at Soldier Field as a road favorite are exactly that could see LaFleur out.
LaFleur’s resume comes with flaws:
- Multiple playoff appearances
- Zero Super Bowl trips
- Repeated postseason stagnation
The Packers have lived this movie before.
They watched elite quarterback play get wasted by January shortcomings with Aaron Rodgers. They fired Mike McCarthy not because he was terrible—but because the organization believed he had become the ceiling.
LaFleur risks becoming the same archetype: steady, competent, respected… and ultimately insufficient.
