The Tennessee Titans just became much more scary after yet another defensive addition through free agency. On Sunday, the Titans came to an agreement with free safety Quandre Diggs on a one-year deal with a maximum value of $5 million, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Titans fans have plenty of reasons to be excited about the team's newest addition. Diggs was named to three straight Pro Bowls from 2020-2022 while collecting 14 interceptions in that span. The 10-year veteran brings 137 games of experience to Tennessee and figures to slot in next to Amani Hooker as the starting free safety, relegating Elijah Molden to a depth role.
Diggs is as reliable as they come in the NFL. The 31-year-old defender hasn't missed a game since 2019, which is a form of durability that seems foreign to Titans fans. He started all 17 games for the Seahawks in 2023, recording 95 tackles with one interception and five passes defensed.
Jamal Adams was a valuable piece in orchestrating a reunion with his former teammate from their days together in Seattle. The relationship between Diggs and Adams dates back to childhood, so it's difficult to imagine Adams didn't have a role in this deal. In fact, Adams recently told reporters that he is constantly in communication with Diggs, which makes sense considering the safety tandem received Pro Bowl honors playing side-by-side in 2020.
General manager Ran Carthon has helped the Titans defense undergo a major facelift this offseason. The secondary is undoubtedly the most improved unit on the team with Hooker and Diggs playing behind talented cornerbacks L'Jarius Sneed, Chidobe Awuzie, and Roger McCreary.
Successful teams in the NFL are able to move the ball efficiently through throwing the football as well as being equipped to stop the pass on the defensive side. Carthon has set defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson up for plenty of success in his first season in his new role.
