Ryan Stonehouse news proves Titans correct with their shift in philosophy
A Former Titan is back on the open market.
The Tennessee Titans have been bold in some of their decisions this offseason. They found a new rookie quarterback, saw a notable veteran defender join a different AFC foe, and also made a vital special teams choice for the foreseeable future.
Dolphins move on from former Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse
According to reports, the Dolphins have released former Titans punter Ryan Stonehouse and wide receiver Tarik Black. Miami is adding defensive depth (LB Matthew Judon and CB Cameron Dantzler Sr.) as the corresponding moves.
The former Titans boot is now back on the market. The Titans made a bold decision early in the offseason in choosing not to tender Stonehouse. It was a decision that surprised some fans. The young punter was impressive early in his NFL career, but Tennessee felt like they could look elsewhere for a replacement.
Stonehouse was surprised when Tennessee decided not to tender him, too.
“I think a lot of other people were as well. I truly didn’t expect it. I’m a guy that I like to be where my feet are, been training in that building ever since I stepped foot in it three years ago. I thought it would be a little bit different, just more clarity would have been nice, but it is what it is and I’m excited for this new opportunity.” — Stonehouse following exit from Titans
Long-time NFL boot Johnny Hekker is currently the only punter on the Titans roster. The veteran punter was one of the best in football in avoiding touchbacks a season ago. Hekker also ranked in the top fifteen in net average on his punts last season. He was effective, and the Titans have plenty of confidence in him.
