There's a thief on the loose in Nashville and he goes by the name Jon Robinson.
A night after landing a top ten talent at No. 19 overall in Jeffery Simmons, the Tennessee Titans selected a player with first round talent in the second round in Ole Miss wide receiver AJ Brown.
The Titans obviously needed another wide receiver to pair with Corey Davis. And Brown was one of the best players left on the draft board.
Of course, we've seen many teams in this situation before. A situation where the pick seems obvious, but it somehow gets screwed up.
But not Robinson. He's not trying to outsmart everyone in the room, he's just making logical choices that will benefit the Titans for years to come.
Which is why Robinson selection Brown, an impressive wide receiver who was extremely productive in college.
Not only was he productive, he was also reliable. Brown had only five drops on 90 "catchable targets".
The 6-foot-1 wide receiver should fit in well to Tennessee's offensive philosophy. He's probably not going to stretch the field too much (though he does run a 4.49 in the 40), but he should give opposing defenses a fit with his ability to get open on intermediate routes.
Robinson could've went rogue and made an outside-the-box selection in the second round. But he made the obvious choice that plenty of general mangers would've passed on.
That's the main reason I think the future of the Titans is incredibly bright. Robinson is building a team that can achieve sustainable success, which is rare in the NFL outside of a few franchises (mainly the New England Patriots).
