The Tennessee Titans got their second win of the year on Sunday, but perhaps more impressive than the win itself was the breaking of the Lions Curse.

Yes, the Lions Curse. In case you missed it, the discourse coming into Week 9 for the Titans was about their opportunity to be the first team to win after having played the Lions. I wrote all about it right here. The theory of the curse goes like this:

The Lions are an incredible football team. The best in the league, depending on who you ask (me). And not only are they extremely good at football, but they're amongst the most physically violent in the NFL. The maul you in the trenches. Their skill players hit you hard. Their secondary hits you harder. They embody the spirit of their Head Coach Dan Campbell as they chew you up and spit you out.

The Rams, Buccaneers, Cardinals, Seahawks, Cowboys, and Vikings all fell prey to the mighty Lions Curse this season. Lions opponents were 0-5 straight up as well as against the spread after facing Detroit. And they weren't just losing, they were getting clobbered.

Now, the record improves to 1-5 thanks to the Titans.

"Yes, I've heard" Brian Callahan said, when asked last week if he knew of the Lions Curse. "The 49ers had one like that last year too I think."

I asked him if he thinks there's anything to the idea that the Lions beat up on teams any more than other NFL teams do, or if this is just a coincidence. "Well, I'd like to say it's a coincidence, because it likely is" he started. "but we are pretty beat up. It probably has more to do with playing two physical teams on the road than anything else. I don't think the Lions are any more physical than most good teams."

The Titans were, in fact, extremely beat up. On Friday's final injury report, they had 8 starters listed as questionable and three players already ruled out. Luckily, a handful of the questionable guys ended up playing in the game. But some of that wear and tear showed throughout the course of the day, and a couple additional key pieces went down with various injury.

Tennessee has taken a proper physical beating the past month, but they got a sorely-needed win and managed to break the Lions curse in the process. It may feel impossible for these players to get out of bed in the morning, but they'll at least be sleeping good knowing they stopped the bleeding on their 2024 campaign.
