The Tennessee Titans are going to make the Atlanta Falcons create a game plan for all quarterbacks ahead of their Week 8 matchup.
Titans head coach Mike Vrabel told reporters that if starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill is not ready to go, then both backup QBs Malik Willis and rookie Will Levis will play against Atlanta on Sunday.
Vrabel added that Tannehill, who is nursing a right ankle injury, will not participate in the team's first practice as they prepare a day early for their home outing.
“We’ll see where he is at the end of the week,” Vrabel said. "I would imagine that if Ryan can’t play, I would anticipate both of those quarterbacks playing in the football game. But Ryan is off of his roller or walker or whatever he had. And we’ll see where he is at the end of the week.”
Vrabel is not completely ruling him out just yet, though NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday that he's hearing Tannehill is "unlikely to play" in Week 8.
Tannehill suffered his high ankle sprain against the Baltimore Ravens in London in Week 7. It's not the first time Tannehill has battled an injury to his right ankle, in fact, the surgery that he already had on it last year could end up speeding up his recovery.
Willis stepped in briefly in the fourth quarter for Tannehill against Baltimore to finish the game, completing 3 of 4 passes for 74 yards and three carries for 17 yards.
Although it was hard to truly evaluate Willis' performance in such a short amount of playing time, Vrabel offered some high praise on the team's 2022 third-round pick.
"I think that there was some improvement. I think that's a tough spot. We hit it down there on the goal line and just the operation of where we were; down two scores, not having the timeouts and just needing to know not taking a sack and not having to hold onto that ball. The time is critical. I think that's tough to evaluate," Vrabel told reporters after the loss to Baltimore. "I think he could have probably gotten rid of the football or tried to find somebody a little quicker. But, I think that it was good to see him get us off to a good start with the keeper and then obviously finding Tyjae (Spears) and getting the ball out of his hand. So not a whole lot of work outside of just that situation."
Dating back to last season, Wills has appeared in nine NFL games with three starts.
As for Levis, he has not been activated this season.
The Titans will release their first official injury report for Week 8 on Wednesday afternoon.
